Seeing these news mean nothing significant to day-to-day consumers like us but for businesses, it’s a constant, looming threat that is only set for an exponential climb.

Who’s affected?

Cloudflare has reported a data leak recently that could potentially affect more than 2,500 websites locally. Some of the websites that might be affected include our favourite Mothership, Tamilmurasa and transport service Beeline.

According to Today, the sites were not affected up until now. Across the board, many international sites have requested for their users to change their password in these uncertain times. #Cloudbleed has been trending in light of this data leak.

Cloudflare is a  U.S. company that provides a content delivery networkInternet security services and distributed domain name server services, the main part that was affected in this data leak. Cloudflare has more than 5.5 million websites under their radar and of which, 770 identified unique URLs of such cached content has been targeted.

Consumers who have “keyed in their personal data on affected websites” could potentially be at risk as well. This includes your day-to-day searches on Google and Yahoo who would have been cached in the leaked memory through “their crawling and caching processes”.

Here’s the full list.

Where to find assistance?

Singcert (Singapore Computer Emergency Response Team) issued a warning last Friday that there’s a “critical system vulnerability” caused by the Cloudflare bug. Cyber Security Agency of Singapore is monitoring the situation and could seek help from SingCert if they encounter any cyber security incidents.

With the various initiatives launched recently on cybersecurity, we should be able to deter malicious attacks on the internet in the near future.
