Did your favourite hawker stall make it onto the list?
Once again, Singapore’s beloved food has made its mark on the international scene.
Local hawker stall Hill Street Tai Hwa Bak Chor Mee received the top accolade in this year’s World Street Food Congress’ (WSFW) Top 50 World Street Food Masters List, where it emerged first ahead of other countries like Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand.
The famous noodle store, founded by Tang Joon Teo, was also awarded a Michelin one star last year in July.
Worldwide Attention:
In describing their decision, the WSFW said:
“They are the first family behind this Singapore-invented dish and the second generation, already in his sixties, have now received worldwide attention as one of the first street food hawkers to obtain a Michelin star.
“The sambal and black vinegar-laced pork noodle is the stuff addiction is made of, and the wait for an order is about 90 minutes.”
The tasty Teochew-style bak chor mee – which is known for its springy noodles, tender meat, and flavorful sauce – has been lauded by some bloggers as the best bak chor mee in Singapore.

That said, Hill Street Tai Hwa Bak Chor Mee is not the only Singaporean dish on the list.
