It’s hard to believe but we’re already halfway through 2017. School’s out (for the kids at least), and what better time to sneak in a well-deserved break for the past six months we’ve been slogging away.

2. Get Hands On At This Gudetama Bento Workshop
Calling all Gudetama lovers – sign yourself up for this bento workshop and learn how to make cute bentos featuring this lazy, grumpy egg character that we all love. The workshop also promises to use only simple and healthy ingredients, so recreating it at home won’t be impossible.
Organised by the folks behind the recently opened Gudetama Cafe in Singapore, this DIY workshop won’t leave you empty handed – you get to take home your very own bento creation, a personalised certificate and a limited edition Gudetama plush toy (worth $58.80) at the end of the hands-on workshop.

3. Feast On Tiong Bahru Bakery’s Latest Pancake Burgers
Need a new brunch spot? Look no further, this bakery which is known for their buttery and flaky croissants and kouign amanns, has now expanded their forte to include pancake burgers, rice bowls and pasta as part of their new savoury menu.
The dinner menu is exclusive to their outlet at Raffles City Shopping Centre, which is available from 5pm to 9:15pm on weekdays and 9am to 9:15pm on weekends. Pop by just to have a taste of their new dishes, even if you live closer to other outlets, because the FOMO will hit you hard if you miss out on their pancake burgers!
Get your hands on their Breakfast Pancake Burger ($18) and the PB&B Pancake Burger ($23), both equally sinful but lip-smackingly good. They’ll wow you with their massive portion and towering layers of pancake, housemade beef patty and bacon.

4. Run Alongside Your Favourite DreamWorks Characters
You probably grew up watching at least one DreamWorks Animation movie. Be it Kung Fu Panda, Shrek or Madagascar – here’s your chance to rub shoulders with your favourite characters and snap some pictures.
This June, look forward to the the first ever DreamWorks Day in Asia featuring a themed carnival and for the athletics amongst us, there is a 5km fun run and Kids Dash to look forward to. You’ll get to run around with characters from Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, How To Train Your Dragon and Madagascar at the scenic Gardens By The Bay.

5. The Indoor Pasar Malam: The Yummy Food Expo
If the Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar didn’t do enough to satisfy the foodie in you, then be sure to check this upcoming food expo. Remember to bring an empty stomach and some friends, on this trip down to make space for the endless mouth-watering food on offer.
From the usual pasar malam grubs to hipster cafe fare, you’ll definitely find something that tickles your fancy at this food exhibition.

6. For That Post-Dinner Stroll: Spectra @ MBS
We’re always too lazy to walk off our post-dinner bellies, but perhaps this new state-of-the-art light and water show by the promenade will be enough to entice you. If you happen to be in the area, stop by the Marina Bay waterfront to catch this multimedia extravaganza for that perfect ending to your night.
Feast your eyes on the bespoke, laminated glass and stainless steel prism that stands at 12 metres tall, bursting with a kaleidoscope of colors that will leave you starry-eyed. Look out for a sneak peek into Singapore’s future as well as lava and mist effects.
Complemented by an orchestral soundtrack composed by our homegrown producer, Kenn C, this is one theatrical production you won’t want to miss. It’s set to be a mainstay event, but the launch will feature a free concert series with talents like Singapore Idol winner Sezairi Sezali and singer-songwriter Gayle Nerva.

7. NParks Concert Series in the park: Rockestra
It’s the 6th edition of NParks Concert Series in the Park: Rockestra. And this time, it is going retro. Think of a throwback night with music playing from the ‘60s to the ‘90s by the likes of ABBA, Bananarama, Beatles, Elvis Presley, Queen and Michael Jackson.
Local acts such as Jack and Rai, Dru Chen, Shagies, Joie Tan and The Durian Theory will also be making an appearance, and belting out some pop and rock tunes at the concert.

Also, no outdoor event will be complete without a food bazaar of sorts, since Singaporeans are after all foodies in their true element. 9. Kaypoh? Pay This HDB Homes of Singapore Exhibition A Visit
Ever wanted to peek into someone else’s house? Now you can, at this photo exhibition showcasing HDB homes in Singapore, from the #interiorgoals to those with an old-school charm.
That was the mission embarked on by Japanese artists, Eitaro Ogawa and Tamae Iwasaki, and architecture lecturer, Tomohisa Miyauchi, three years ago. Since then, the trio has documented the creatively furnished homes of 118 HDB homes, eventually publishing their findings in a 700-page photo book that you can now get a glimpse of at SPRMRKT on McCallum Street.
Exhibiting everything from DIY gardens to entertainment pads filled with pool tables, these pictures capture the charm, resourcefulness, and diversity you’re capable of finding in these quintessential Singaporean abodes. Whether you’re looking for home décor inspo, or simply like to appreciate top-notch photography while grabbing a local bite – SPRMRKT will also be serving traditional sweets and snacks – this exhibition will be right up your alley.

10. Step Into Lady Gaga’s Shoes For A Night
Inspired by Lady Gaga, this themed party is set to transport travellers into Gaga’s world. The night begins with a slew of acoustic sets followed by dance performances.

11. Caffeine Addicts – Check Out The Range Of Affogatos Here
Get excited, coffee junkies – Asia’s first affogato bar has landed on our sunny island. Located within Bukit Timah’s hipster hideout, The Affogato Bar at Cluny court specializes in this coffee-based dessert. Featuring five different types of affogato, they are all made with double espresso shot of Dimattima, which is a household coffee in Melbourne’s coffee scene.
Chocoholics, swap out your daily mocha for this dessert served in a martini glass. Aptly called Death by Chocolate ($13.90), this one features a dark chocolate sorbet, brownie chunks and chocolate streusel served alongside a double shot of espresso.

12. Enjoy A Day Of Culture
Who said operas have to be in theatres? Eliminating the cliches of a traditional opera performance so as to attract a wider audience, the Singapore Lyric Opera is back to serenade you with their mesmerising musical set. Held at the scenic Singapore Botanic Gardens, get ready to fall in love with renditions of opera classics.
Led by Singaporean conductor and The Julliard School graduate, Joshua Tan, the Orchestra will also feature winners from the Open and Junior categories of the SLO-Asean Vocal Competition 2016. Plus, the SLO Chorus and Children Choir will be making a guest appearance at this annual event, so you’ll even catch future opera starlets from this bunch of talented tots.
If this is your first ever opera experience, fret not, the brilliant line-up of programmes is carefully curated to appeal to a the mass crowd. Feel carefree again as you indulge in the performance on your picnic mat.
