This August, travel back in time for a nostalgic Singapore experience by celebrating National Day at Sentosa. Meet costumed characters from Singapore’s pre-war days and enjoy timeless good food from 20 over stalls at Palawan Green. Sample food from Singapore’s past like chendol and peranakan kueh. Enjoy free programmes like the heritage carnival, special edition light show and entertaining performances around the island. Enjoy movie screenings from 7-13 August, retro food photo props and an outdoor obstacle course. All this and more have been lined up at Sentosa to make your National Day celebrations special.

When the sun goes down, the National Day special edition lights show at the Merlion Plaza is bound to thrill you with a spectacular lights show till 27 August. You could watch performances at the Merlion Plaza till 26 August. In addition, every Saturday till 26 August, the four ethnic group based music and artistic performances will be held in the Sounds of The Lion City Show. These performances include traditional face-changing, Wushu, Peranakan folk songs, classic Indian songs, East Meets West Fusion music from 5.30pm onwards at the Merlion Park.

There are also deals and discounts at a number of attractions like The Trick Eye Museum Singapore, Singapore Cable Car Sky Network, Wings of Time, Butterfly Park & Insect Kingdom, MOSH! Digital Media Playground, KidZania Singapore, Sentosa 4D Adventureland and Sentosa Merlion.

3. Orchid Extravaganza and Garden Rhapsody Gardens by the Bay

Be treated to a visual display of Orchid blooms that will tell Singapore’s story through the life-cycle of a Butterfly. In addition, experience the Garden Rhapsody light show at the SuperTree Grove. Enjoy our local tunes in tribute to our nation recorded by our very own talents.  This sight and sound display is until 20 August.

4. Civic District Outdoor Festival

This inaugural festival is slated to take place over 2 weeks in August. ‘When Time Stood Still’ promises to be a captivating and spell-binding theatrical and musical show with the Civic district converted into a mega outdoor canvas. The presence of a food market is set to satisfy the taste buds and hunger pangs of the audience.

5. Families for Life Picnic

On 5 August, families are encouraged to go to the Singapore Discovery Centre for families for life picnic. It is held in conjunction with the NS 50 celebrations with NS-themed activities. Admission is free but you will have to register. Highlights include fun carnival games and complementary snacks, pedal boating at the Discovery Lake.

Partake in free celebratory activities and purchase tickets at special promotion price at Wildlife Reserves. For the entire month of August, Singapore residents can purchase combo tickets at a special promotional price of 52% off. The tickets must be purchased on-site and visitors need to visit the two selected parks within a week.

Special activities have been planned at the Wildlife reserves park from 5-6 August and 8-10 August. You’ll be treated to familiar National Day tunes by local buskers, photo shoots with mascots Ah Meng the Orangutan, Canola the Manatee and Sunny the hornbill. Special National Day celebratory performance with manatee unveiling a National Day banner and a cockatoo flying the flag to a lucky visitor has also been lined up for visitors. Enjoy special treats like Milocinno which is a Merlion dusted in cocoa powder, SG éclair and a Singapore Chicken Cottage Pie. At the Singapore Zoo, visitors can indulge in local food fare of satay and goreng pisang at Kampong Mandai next to Ah Meng restaurant. Newly joined Wild Life Reserves members spotted with car decals stand to win prizes from 1-27 August.
