With each season, Gardens By The Bay brings us themed displays, such as Christmas Wonderland as well as the upcoming Children’s Festival. This March, Gardens By The Bay is proud to showcase Blossom Bliss. Beginning in the first week of March, this floral exhibition will be on display for another two weeks, until 24th March 2017. This is the bliss you won’t want to miss.

Blossom Bliss at Gardens By The Bay

Back for the second time, Blossom Bliss features a Japanese-inspired landscape that is bound to captivate you. You will find yourself immersed in the breathtaking beauty of simple, pale pink and white flowers that resemble the fluffy clouds in the sky. A tree-lined pathway and traditional rickshaws come together to create the perfect backdrop for your next Instagram-worthy picture.

Compared to last year’s display, the trees are spread out, and you’ll be able to see varieties of cherry blossoms on show for the first time. If you had visited the display last year, you might be able to recognise the Prunus Accolade, which has beautiful pink semi-double flowers eventually fading to a lovely shade of pale pink.

Whether you frequently travel to Japan or not, you’ll definitely know how iconic these cherry blossoms are. From kimono designs to household decorations, it’s evident that the Japanese love their sakuras.

In case you were wondering why, it’s because cherry blossoms are often used as metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life, given their short blooming season. The beauty and simplicity of the flower are associated with graceful acceptance of destiny. This is why the centuries-old practice of picnicking under a sakura tree in full bloom (called “Hanami”, literally translating to “flower viewing”) is still practiced today by both locals and tourists in Japan.
