Bistro @ Changi
Located just five minutes from the main areas of Changi Village, this little al-fresco bistro offers most diners a front-row view of Changi Beach, and unfortunately, never-ending streams of runners, walkers, and cyclists too, as it’s located just next to the tracks. Nevertheless, it is a great spot to wind down with a beer with the fresh cool breeze blowing, or to do some plane-spotting – the flight path is right above the bistro. However, the food here can be rather mediocre, so we suggest getting your fill at Changi Village Hawker Centre first before coming here for the affordable beer.

Wawawa
It’s a rather bizarre name for such a pretty cafe, but what we know is that this café, located right by Bedok Reservoir, is a scenic secret guarded by Eastsiders. Mostly residents from the nearby estate stop at this cafe, so expect a dressed-down crowd consisting of the occasional dog-walker stopping over for a drink, or joggers replenishing after a run. As dusk falls, start facing west and you’ll be rewarded with a glorious sunset and its watery reflection.
We like the pizzas and calamari rings here best, downed with a pint or two of Erdinger draught beer.

Atmosphere Bistro
The indoor section of this bistro located at East Coast Park can come across as a little “Ah Beng-ish” thanks to the liberal use of blue illumination, but we didn’t come all the way here to be cocooned in the air-conditioned room! Take a seat outside instead, and combat the humidity with a frozen Kirin beer or ice-cold Corona.

Georges @ The Cove
The Georges brand has been around for more than a decade, with its first outlet located in Siglap, so you know you’re in good hands here. Possibly one of the largest bistros dotting Pasir Ris Park, it sits directly on the beach. The last time we were there on a Saturday afternoon, we had to wait in line for a while before snagging a table – that’s how popular the place is.
And with above-average pub grub such as its English-style beer-battered Fish and Chips (it even comes with malt vinegar, to tease and tantalise your taste-buds), and decently-priced alcoholic beverages, it’s easy to see why it’s a great place to be.

5 Drunken Rabbits
Although the beach is a few minutes’ walk away and the beach view is obscured by trees, 5 Drunken Rabbits makes up for the lack of scenery with an extensive and well-executed food menu that goes beyond the usual bistro fare. Fans of this place would recommend the Baby Back Ribs, doused in an intense barbecue sauce, and spam fries.
