Today, Telegram Bots are all the rage. From providing promo codes for car-sharing apps, Pokemon Go tip-offs and even publicising free buffets, there are many bots out there that have got your life’s comforts covered.

Well, in light of recent events related to our public transport (cough cough signal faults), this latest Telegram Bot will definitely come in handy.

Reddit user chihao711 has designed a Telegram chatbot named SG MRT that provides a whole lot of useful information to MRT travellers.

One of the more relevant and important features of the bot is that it informs users of breakdowns, signal faults and train faults whenever it occurs.

Understandably, train delays are becoming ever more frequent in Singapore. In late June, the entire North South Line actually ceased operations for several hours, leaving many commuters stranded.

Seeing as to how Singaporean commuters had to endure three delays already this month, this bot comes at an excellent timing.

That’s Not All

In addition to this it also tells users timings of the next arriving train, the subsequent train, and the train’s final destination.

To obtain the information, you simply need to type in /getmrtstation on the chat. For example, if you want to find out the timings for Bishan, all you need to do is to type in /getbishan.

However, do take note that due to the limited availability of data, the bot only provides information for SMRT lines as of now.

This means that the bot does not feature information from the newer MRT lines operated by SBS, such as the Downtown Line and the North East Line.

Nonetheless, having a service that informs you of any MRT disruptions before your enter the train can be a real lifesaver.
